At-Tariq

The Nightcommer17 Versesmakkah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

✦

86:1

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ

By the sky

وَٱلطَّارِقِ

and the night comer

By the sky and the night comer

86:2

وَمَآ

And what

أَدۡرَٮٰكَ

can make you know

مَا

what

ٱلطَّارِقُ

the night comer (is)

And what can make you know what is the night comer?

86:3

ٱلنَّجۡمُ

(It is) the star

ٱلثَّاقِبُ

the piercing

It is the piercing star¹

86:4

إِن

Not

كُلُّ

(is) every

نَفۡسٍ

soul

لَّمَّا

but

عَلَيۡهَا

over it

حَافِظٌ

(is) a protector

There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.

86:5

فَلۡيَنظُرِ

So let see

ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ

man

مِمَّ

from what

خُلِقَ

he is created

So let man observe from what he was created.

86:6

خُلِقَ

He is created

مِن

from

مَّآءٍ

a water

دَافِقٍ

ejected

He was created from a fluid, ejected,

86:7

يَخۡرُجُ

Coming forth

مِنۢ

from

بَيۡنِ

between

ٱلصُّلۡبِ

the backbone

وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

and the ribs

Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

86:8

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

عَلَىٰ

رَجۡعِهِۦ

return him

لَقَادِرٌ

(is) Able

Indeed, He [i.e., Allāh], to return him [to life], is Able.

86:9

يَوۡمَ

(The) Day

تُبۡلَى

will be tested

ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

the secrets

The Day when secrets will be put on trial,¹

86:10

فَمَا

Then not

لَهُۥ

(is) for him

مِن

any

قُوَّةٍ

power

وَلَا

and not

نَاصِرٍ

any helper

١٠

Then he [i.e., man] will have no power or any helper.

86:11

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ

By the sky

ذَاتِ

which

ٱلرَّجۡعِ

returns

١١

By the sky which sends back¹

86:12

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ

And the earth

ذَاتِ

which

ٱلصَّدۡعِ

cracks open

١٢

And [by] the earth which splits,¹

86:13

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, it

لَقَوۡلٌ

(is) surely a Word

فَصۡلٌ

decisive

١٣

Indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a decisive statement,

86:14

وَمَا

And not

هُوَ

بِٱلۡهَزۡلِ

(is) for amusement

١٤

And it is not amusement.

86:15

إِنَّهُمۡ

Indeed, they

يَكِيدُونَ

are plotting

كَيۡدًا

a plot

١٥

Indeed, they are planning a plan,

86:16

وَأَكِيدُ

But I am planning

كَيۡدًا

a plan

١٦

But I am planning a plan.

86:17

فَمَهِّلِ

So give respite

ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ

(to) the disbelievers

أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ

Give respite to them

رُوَيۡدَۢا

little

١٧

So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.¹
